Botanical dyeing

Recently I have been dying fabric with food waste and flowers I have dried. It is a magical world of creating colour without chemicals and using botanicals that would otherwise be discarded. I firstly mordant a piece of fabric with Alum or use a binder such as soy milk. These both help the dye fix to the fibres and create a more intense colour
